In Loving Memory of Nolan David Brunner, a Fearless Young Leader
The following is a statement written by Bill Stansberry in honor of Nolan David Brunner, a member of Youth Crime Watch Chillicothe in Ohio who passed away this past December, after a long fight against brain cancer. Here at Ignitus Worldwide we honor this young leader, and express our deepest condolences to Nolan’s family, loved ones, and the community he made a difference in. To read more, click here.
On August 18th, 2010, YCWC worked in cooperation with the Salvation Army, ALVIS House, Adult Parole Authority and others in a back-to-school book bag drive. Approximately 850 book bags with school supplies were given to at-risk, low-income youth from K-12 throughout the community along with a cookout and other crime prevention activities held all day at the Salvation Army.
One of the most exciting programs held this year was a bullying presentation given by the youth from YCWC at local mobile home communities, with local churches helping serve kids hot dogs and providing handout material for the youth. The programs were well attended and the youth of Ross County have taken the stance of eliminating bullying in our schools and communities. They are now working with the local school districts and the local schools to place a link on their web pages to report bullying to school officials.
An eight week financial literacy program was held during the summer to help teach the youth how to handle money, how to make change, and how to make and keep a budget. YCWC is an after school program that educates youth in the importance of being part of the community. Our motto is EDUCATION + ACTION = CHANGE.
Our next endeavor is our semi-annual food drive for the Good Samaritan Network. We have recruited the local radio station and car dealership as partners for a day long food drive broadcasting live from our local Community Market. Our goal is to fill two of the dealership’s pickup trucks and a UPS delivery truck; Good Samaritan Network will then distribute the food to needy individuals and families.
